ANDERSEN ETUDES - THE CONCERT SESSIONS
from J. Andersen's Op. 37 etudes for flute solo

The series started with Etude Nr. 1 in C major, released on carnival Rosenmontag 2023 (Shrove Monday). It's called "the concert sessions" as these pieces are musical delights which deserve to be interpreted and heard as concert music.

The final of my six etudes from Andersen's Op. 37, this was musically the hardest one to interpret. It requires a certain flow which is both lingering at times but also has continuity. It is most beautiful to create layers of sound between sequences - some layers are thicker, other layers are just like foggy air. Despite some technical imperfections, I still chose this version as I think it conveys my musical concepts and intentions the most.
As I was choosing a title image, I came upon my photos of Rothéneuf, France. I was reminded of the touching story of Father Fouré (1839-1910) who created sculptures directly from the coastal rocks in Rothéneuf. Due to a stroke, he became deaf and suffered speech difficulties. The ocean and the rocks became his partners in dialogue as he led a secluded life. I find this etude and Father Fouré's story share a similar sentiment and thus I settled on one of his sculptures as the title image here.

Thank you all who have been following my recordings! Even though the etudes are short, this has been a wonderful project for me to sink artistically deeply into something which may seem trivial at first glance. What a project it was, and there's so much more.
